How do you try to begin to explain, describe, and recapture the experience of The Paradise Garage’s legendary legacy. Here, we attempt to put together a cohesive collection of the many genres that cover a wide spectrum and together create a semblance of the Paradise Garage, it’s music and its ever emulated legendary dj/Producer Larry Levan. Journey Into Paradise focuses on the early days of a different music genre, Garage. The genre of dance music Levan invented – Garage – takes its name from Paradise Garage, the illustrious New York City club where his decade-long residency was legendary for its soulful DJ mixes. Using the turntables like a musical atom smasher, Levan gracefully slammed together eclectic genres – Philadelphia soul, punk, classic rock and Afro-Cuban disco to name a few – to create rapture on the dance floor.
